A stripped-back interpretation of the traditional zip boot, handmade in Italy from black veg tanned leather with a brutalist structured silhouette. The narrow shaft sits below the ankle bone and opens through a discreet back zip, preserving the clean, uninterrupted profile of the one piece upper. The black leather upper is cut with additional material built into the pattern, allowing it to fold and gather naturally around the foot and ankle. This creates the boot’s relaxed, scrunched appearance, which becomes more pronounced and individual with wear.

The Handsewn Goodyear Zip Boot is handmade in Italy from black veg tanned leather using traditional handsewn and handmade Goodyear-welted construction for lasting comfort, stability and the ability to be repaired and resoled over time. Each pair is crafted from start to finish within a small family-run atelier in Montegranaro, a historic town in Italy’s Marche region known for centuries for making shoes and boots by hand.

The Zip Boot construction returns to the original principles of FEIT: making footwear slowly and by hand, with an emphasis on longevity, repairability and lasting comfort. Traditional bootmaking is reduced to its essential elements and reinterpreted through FEIT’s brutalist design language.

Process & Materials

Each pair in the Goodyear collection is handmade using traditional Goodyear construction, a process that joins the upper, insole and welt before attaching the outsole. This creates a structured yet adaptable foundation designed to be repaired and resoled rather than replaced.

The boots are made from black veg tanned leather selected for its depth, natural variation and ability to develop character through wear. Rather than forcing the leather into a rigid, uniform shape, the patterns allow the material to fold and move naturally.

Each pair passes through the hands of a single master shoemaker from start to finish, preserving the knowledge, touch and individual judgment that automated production removes. No two pairs are the same.

Components & Details

The Zip Boot is formed from a one-piece black leather upper, reducing seams and visual interruption. Additional volume is built into the boot pattern, allowing the leather to fold and gather naturally around the foot and ankle for a relaxed, lived-in appearance. A back zip preserves the clean profile of the upper. Traditional Goodyear-welted construction provides lasting structure and allows each pair to be repaired and resoled over time.

The stacked leather sole and heel are hand-stained to match the upper, with thin Vibram rubber sheeting applied at the forefoot and heel for added traction and protection. The exposed welt highlights the boot’s construction, while subtle irregularities reveal the hand of the maker. Formal shoemaking is reduced to its essential elements, creating a raw, minimal silhouette designed to gain depth and character through wear.

Location & Specialty

The Goodyear collection is made in Montegranaro, a small town in Italy’s Marche region with generations of expertise in handmade men’s shoes and boots.

Unlike modern large-scale factories, production in this region remains rooted in a network of small, family-run ateliers. Knowledge is passed between generations, with individual makers specializing in the cutting, shaping, welting and finishing techniques required for traditional footwear.

By working within this community, FEIT draws on centuries of Italian shoemaking knowledge while moving the familiar forms of men’s footwear into a more minimal and contemporary landscape.
