The Latex Low updates our Hand Sewn Low with a translucent 100% natural latex outsole that is lightweight, cushioned and flexible. Inspired by classic basketball court sneakers of the 1960s—which were generally made of synthetic rubber outsoles and leather substitutes and/or cloth uppers—the Latex Low does not use any synthetics during the production process.
In stark contrast to sneakers on the market today, this all-natural sneaker utilizes only biological materials across every component. The all-natural latex sole has been produced in partnership with Lactae Hevea who exclusively use the milk of the Hevea Brasiliensis (rubber tree). After a four-month “winterizing”, spiral incisions are made into the tree bark, which releases the rubber milk without harming the vegetation.
Other all-natural features include buffalo leather and cork removable insoles, hand-stitched leather pull tab, and one-piece semi cordovan leather upper and lining. Also using semi cordovan for the lining provides natural padding for the inside of the shoe. The one-piece upper will patina over time, growing richer with wear as it softens and molds to the foot. The padded ankle collar and tongue do not require breaking in and will soften with continuous wear.
Presented in Tan and White this season.
