Unlike most women’s shoes on the market today which are machine-stitched and made with chemically treated materials, FEIT’s Shearling Heel Boot features a one-piece vegetable-tanned upper, a fully stacked leather heel, natural shearling lining, and is entirely hand lasted and hand sewn. Once constructed, the shoe is left on its last for up to 14 days where light steam is applied to form and tighten the leather.
The upper will hold and mold to the foot over time, while the shearling lining maximizes comfort and warmth. A hand-stitched pull tab aids fitting and removal. Braided hand-stitching along the welt unifies the upper with a wooden heel wrapped with leather via a Goodyear construction.
FEIT footwear is mainly built using vegetable-tanned leather. Vegetable-tanned leather breathes as in nature. It is non-irritant, soft to touch, ages richly over time, and biodegrades. The leather remains neutral regardless of the temperature, and does not retain sweat or odor, allowing FEIT shoes to be worn barefoot and get better with age.
All FEIT Hikers are made from start to finish by one master craftsman using a hand sewn Goodyear construction, whereby the one-piece upper of the boot is sewn to a welt, which is then sewn to a leather midsole. The sole is then filled with cork and a bamboo shank stabilizer is added. Finally, a Vibram outsole is cemented to the midsole using a natural, water-based glue.
Goodyear construction ensures all FEIT shoes can be resoled.
Each pair of FEIT shoes comes with an extra set cork and buffalo leather insoles to assist with in-between sizing. The additional leather insole can be used alone, or the cork can be inserted underneath the leather for extra padding. If you are between sizes, you can either size up and use the included insoles, or size down and use no additional insoles.
