The Hand Sewn Mule is an open-back reinterpretation of our classic Hand Sewn Slipper. Built entirely by hand using FEIT modified Goodyear construction, it features all-natural materials, a one-piece vegetable-tanned leather upper, and unlined raw edges. The leather is thick and robust but has been softened by the drum dying process. During construction, the shoe is exposed to light steam and humidity over 10 days, which helps tighten the leather to enhance both the shape and fit. Vegetable dyed shearling wool is included for additional warmth for year round wear.
All FEIT shoes are made from start to finish by one master craftsman. The one-piece upper is sewn by hand directly to the midsole. A cork footbed and a bamboo shank stabilizer is added, then the leather outsole is cemented to the midsole using a natural, water-based glue. We refer to this process as a modified hand-sewn Goodyear construction.
Goodyear construction ensures all FEIT shoes can be resoled.
Each pair of FEIT shoes comes with an extra set cork and buffalo leather insoles to assist with in-between sizing. The additional leather insole can be used alone, or the cork can be inserted underneath the leather for extra padding. If you are between sizes, you can either size up and use the included insoles, or size down and use no additional insoles. All FEIT shoes include an additional buffalo leather insert that may cause slippage if worn with a sock. Flip the insert if friction is scarce.
