MM XX TOKYO: THE CANCELLED OLYMPICS

The Olympic Games represent the unification of an ever-changing world. Historically, The Games were cancelled for World Wars on 3 occasions: 1916, 1940, and 1944. Notably, The 1940 and 2020 Olympics mark two instances Japan weathered broken tradition. The coronavirus outbreak marks a new act of history: the first Olympic postponement. By default, FEIT’s Tokyo MM XX Collection commemorates new world history by capturing this unique occasion. These products, designed to capture Japanese spirit, Olympic graphic design, and athletic silhouettes, are a token of the games that could have been. 

 

Inspired by traditional Olympic footwear, a mindful selection of natural materials compliment the organic aspects of each design: paper-thin kangaroo uppers, hand-painted details, and meticulous Japanese craftsmanship. The Olympic Games encompass the character and devotion of the world’s best athletes; pared-down silhouettes inspired by vintage gym shoes, weight-lifting trainers, and boxing footwear recall their athletic heritage and embrace a spirit of competition in light of the cancelled Tokyo 2020 Olympics.




 

 

GOODYEAR BOOT

Inspired by vintage boxing shoes, FEIT’s all-new Goodyear Boot brings fresh functionality, comfort, and craft to a traditional boxing footwear silhouette. The fluid composition recalls boxing training essentials: breathable material, ease of movement, and a non-slip sole. A soft, sock-like fit withstands stretching and hard wear without losing its shape, and pays homage to the sport’s fundamentals: agility, strength, and endurance.

An exposed, hand-sewn Goodyear welt recalls the style’s athletic roots, highlighting the impressive craftsmanship behind each pair while allowing for easy resoling. Thin, vegetable-tanned leather rands above the welt will darken and patina naturally with time in subtle contrast to the discreet, hand-painted circles just below the outer ankle. Hand-stitched heel tabs and triplet tongue-loops add functionality, while combination outsoles of leather and rubber ensure traction, durability, and comfort in all weather.

 

 

 

GOODYEAR LOW

FEIT’s iconic Hand Sewn Low is reimagined, pulling inspiration from the vintage weightlifting shoes. The low-top ankle and angled heel pay tribute to the sport’s fundamentals: balance, range of motion, and stability. A hand-sewn Goodyear welt captures the essence of traditional weightlifting footwear silhouettes and recalls the style’s athletic roots.


A new adaptation of the iconic Hand Sewn Low inspired by vintage running shoes and old-school athletic footwear. Seamless, one-piece uppers are cut from breathable, paper-thin kangaroo leather that will withstand stretching and hard wear without losing its shape. An exposed, hand sewn Goodyear welt recalls the style’s athletic heritage and highlights the human craftsmanship behind each pair. Vegetable tanned leather rands above the welt will darken and patina naturally with time, creating a subtle contrast to the discreet, hand-painted circles just below the outer ankle. All-new for The Tokyo MM XX Collection, FEIT’s Goodyear Ballet is inspired by vintage gym shoes. The sleek, comprehensive design cites a classic ballet-style flat, equipped for motion and wear of gymnastics floor routines. Hand-stitched heel tabs allow for easy slip-on wear, and combination outsoles of leather and rubber compliment the sport’s essentials: precision, strength, and grace.
