The Oxford shoe came into being at Oxford University in the early 19th century, where students rebelled against the formality of knee-high and ankle-high boots by wearing the “Oxonian,” a half-boot with side slits. The side slit evolved into a side lace and the boots eventually evolved into shoes with the lace eventually moving to the instep. FEIT’s Side Lace Oxford, a minimal version of the original one-piece oxford, reinstates the side lace and features an L-shaped welt hand sewn to a leather sole.

The Hand Sewn Wrap Boot adopts this lacing system and shifts it to the heel to preserve the clean profile of the one-piece design. An updated version of a classic jodphur boot, a vegetable-tanned leather lace replaces the traditional side buckles, and the one-piece upper is hand sewn via an L-shaped welt to a leather sole with a traditional stacked leather heel.

In order to fit the foot properly, a high level of craft is integral to making these styles, as the single piece of leather must be hand-lasted and hand sewn directly to the sole. The hand-sewn Goodyear construction and one-piece uppers of each shoe enhance the clean, modern, and sturdy design.
